Forum on appreciating the value of savings

Cumilla, Bangladesh: To celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of The Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the District Employment and Manpower Office and the Migrant Resource Centre in Cumilla organised a forum with around 200 prospective migrants to discuss the legacy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Parliamentary Roundtable on Migration from Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) and the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) jointly organised the first virtual “Parliamentary Roundtable on Migration from Pakistan” on 19th March 2021. The event brought together 12 participants from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOPHRD), Parliamentary members from the standing committee of the Senate of Pakistan and the National Assembly, civil society and subject experts.  

The discussion brought forward several recommendations – including that parliamentarians should collaborate with the MRC to raise awareness on migration in their home communities.  As public figures and ambassadors of their communities, their voices are well received and acknowledged. This workshop also aimed at providing capacity building to parliamentarians in the field of migration. This was the first in a series of workshops, each aimed at different target groups and topics.

National workshop in afghanistan

Kabul, Afghanistan: ICMPD convened a National Workshop on “Mapping of statistics and data exchange on human trafficking, migrant smuggling and irregular migration in Afghanistan” co-chaired by the Secretariat of the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Technical Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The workshop kicked-off the development process of national inter-agency guidelines in improving data exchange on irregular migration, human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

Workshop on female migration

Dhaka, Bangladesh: To build on the celebration of International Women’s Day, ICMPD’s Migrant Resource Centre in Dhaka and the District Employment and Manpower Office organised a stakeholders’ workshop on 9th March 2021. The discussion centred on addressing current gaps and challenges faced by potential women migrants. It was attended by more than 10 government agencies and civil society organisations working on migration in Bangladesh.

Handover Ceremony of 100 books on Basic Knowledge Document Recognition and 100 magnifiers for FIA’s front line Immigration Officers

Islamabad, Pakistan: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) jointly organised a handover ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad on 10th March 2021. Within the framework of the Integrated Border Management (IBM) in the Silk Routes Countries project, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by ICMPD, the FIA was given 100 books on Basic Knowledge Document Recognition and 100 magnifiers for FIA’s front line Immigration Officers.

New Briefing Paper on  Labour Migration Visa Regimes

Vienna, Austria: We are delighted to announce the launch of the latest Budapest Process Briefing Paper. This looks specifically into Labour Migration Visa Regimes. This paper - written by Andrea Salvini and Georg Bolits – provides information on what determines labour migration visa regimes, namely their scope, definition and classification. Taking a case study approach, it analyses the policy options and ways forward in the current Covid-19 pandemic.

workshop on climate induced migration

Islamabad, Pakistan: Together with our partner the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) we held a workshop on climate induced migration for journalists in Pakistan.

The topics discussed included the difficult situations faced by women, particularly during disasters. Vulnerable communities are placed under more strain and exposed to more risks when they are forced to migrate due to climate-induced reasons. Education was highlighted as an important area that needs to be focused on . Through learning new skills and better education will women be able to improve their socio-economic condition.
