Safe and informed migration session in pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) organised an orientation session on "Safe and Informed Migration" at the Askari Institute of Technology, Rawat on 26 June 2021. The session was attended by more than 50 participants who were specialised in a number of different trades.

Pakistan needs assessment study

Islamabad, Pakistan: We are delighted to announce the publication of our Pakistan Needs Assessment Study. This focuses particularly on the information needs of would-be migrants in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Together these regions account for 80% of all Pakistani migrants.

Seminar in Tajikistan on the organised recruitment of labour migrants

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Tajikistan together with the Migration Service co-organised a seminar on 25th June devoted to the organised recruitment of labour migrants through Private Employment Agencies (PEAs). The activity was supported by the EU funded project “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes Countries”.

Debabrata Ghosh receives Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET ) “APA and NIS Award 2020-21”

Cumilla, Bangladesh: Mr. Debabrata Ghosh, Assistant Director of the District Employment and Manpower Office (DEMO), Cumilla was awarded the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) and National Integrity Strategy (NIS) Award for the fiscal year 2020-21. This is the first time BMET (Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training) has presented such an award for field level institutions.

Where do I go now? Afghans seeking to migrate in view of international troops leaving the country

“I’m thinking about going to Belarus and then cross over to Germany.”

“How can we claim asylum in Tajikistan?”

“Can I get visa if I invest in Europe?”

The Counsellors at the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Kabul, operated jointly by ICMPD and the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation funded by the European Union, have seen a significant rise in migration related inquiries since the beginning of 2021. Currently, the MRC team counsel about 1,000 Afghans on a monthly basis, in-person, by phone and over message services.

Youth volunteer drive in Pakistan

Islamabad and Lahore, Pakistan: Our Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) in Pakistan launched their first youth volunteer drive in April 2021 through the MRC social media platforms offering an opportunity for the youth of Pakistan to connect with the MRCs and support in raising awareness on safe and orderly migration by reaching out to communities and young people.

ICMPD mission to iraq: 5th-11th June 2021

Baghdad, Iraq: Migration management remains a key priority for the Government of Iraq, as the administration struggles with complex issues related to the prevention of irregular migration, migrant smuggling and human trafficking. The government is also addressing the need to achieve sustainable reintegration of those returning to their communities in Iraq, as well as maximising the development potential of migration including through a better, streamlined engagement with Iraqis abroad.

Registration process for departing migrant workers now open in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur, Bangladesh: As of 6th June, migrant workers are able to register at the Technical Training Centre (TTC) in Lakshmipur. The registration process - which includes taking the fingerprint of the departing migrant workers - is a pre-requisite for the issuance of SMART cards and the formal departure of migrants for employment in other countries.

Journalist training in Pakistan on migration issues

Islamabad, Pakistan: The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), in collaboration with Ethical Journalism Network (ENJ), is holding a virtual training course on “Raising Awareness on Migration through Media Reporting.”  Seven leading media houses from Pakistan nominated 19 senior journalists, media personals and freelancers for the three week course which is taking place between 1st and 24th June.

National Workshop on human trafficking, migrant smuggling and irregular migration in Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq: On 7th and 8th June ICMPD has organised a National Workshop on “Mapping of statistical data collection and sharing on human trafficking, migrant smuggling and irregular migration in Iraq” in Baghdad. The event brought together over twenty representatives of various Directorates of the Interior Ministry of Iraq, including the Border Guard Command, Anti-Trafficking, Residency, Arab and International Cooperation, Training as well as Planning Directorates.
