Orientation sessions for Migrant workers in Iraq

Basra, Iraq: Two new post-arrival orientation sessions (PAOS) for migrant workers were conducted in Basra and Missan through the Daewoo Company and PetroChina Company, respectively, as well as the relevant recruitment agencies. Around 110 migrant workers have participated from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and other Asian and African countries as well as local (Iraqi) workers.

Post-arrival orientation sessions in Iraq for female immigrant domestic workers

Baghdad, Iraq: Despite the ongoing impact of the pandemic, we have been holding post-arrival orientation sessions for immigrants. A good example of this is the training workshops co-organised by our Migrants Resource Centre (MRC) and our migrant protection initiative (MIGRA.P).

New Project: Capacity building for long-term reintegration of returnees to Afghanistan and Iraq (CAIR)

Vienna, Austria: The overall objective of this project is to create the conditions for the reintegration of Afghan and Iraqi returnees - individuals as well as families - back into their communities on their return. More specifically, actions will aim at strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Repatriation and Refugees (MoRR) in Afghanistan and the Ministry of Migration and Displaced (MoMD) in Iraq. Activities will also focus on increasing the capabilities of local and community based organisations to provide reintegration support to returnees to Afghanistan and Iraq.

10 000 information brochures handed over in Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) has handed over 10 000 information brochures to the Migration Service of the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan. These information brochures were developed upon the request of the Ministry in the framework of the ongoing information campaign to inform Tajik labour migrants to register in the Russian Federation and regularise their status before 15th June.

Vienna, Austria: On 5th May we held a Budapest Process Webinar on Migration as a Response to Environmental Change: Examples from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. This is a crucial topic since environmental changes (disaster, climate and other environmental events) do not only affect our surroundings, they can become a driver of populations on the move. Traditional definitions of push and pull factors for migration need to be revised as a result.

National Workshop in Tajikistan to discuss learning modules for labour migrants

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: On 28-29th April the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Tajikistan held its first National Workshop to discuss the drafts of two learning modules for labour migrants. These covered the pre-employment orientation session module (PEOS) and pre-departure orientation session (PDOS) and were attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan. The meeting gathered participants from the Ministry of Labour, the Agency for Employment Abroad, Pre-Departure Information Centre for Labour Migrants, Migration Service, the Centre for Training and Monitoring of the Quality of Education and the Centre of Training and Adult Education.

Training sessions on Professional Counselling and Psychological First Aid in Bangladesh

Dhaka and Cumilla, Bangladesh: Training sessions on Professional Counselling and Psychological First Aid (PFA) has been held by our Migrant Resource Centres (MRC) in Bangladesh. Participants from Technical Training Centres (TTC), District Employment and Manpower Offices (DEMO) participated in these trainings.

The MRCs are funded by the European Union under the project “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes Countries” (2017 – 2021).

ICMPD presents Document Security training materials to the General Abdul Raziq National Police Academy in Kabul

Kabul, Afghanistan: On 14th April 2021, ICMPD presented the General Abdul Raziq National Police Academy (ANPA) with Document Security training materials including reference books and electronic magnifiers. These materials are fundamental to delivering high-quality and practical training on document security by ANPA to Afghan Border Police officers.

Expert workshop on migration management in Iraq

Baghdad, Iraq: The first expert workshop for the project on Developing the Iraqi Government’s knowledge and expertise in migration management (IMED) was conducted (virtually) in Baghdad at the Coral Palace Hotel on 11-13th April. The workshop was attended by the project Core Group, comprising senior officers from five ministries (Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Displaced, Interior, Planning, and Labour and Social Affairs).
