Baghdad, 9 November: The Ministry of Interior and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) jointly organised an official handover ceremony for a Trainer’s manual on profiling, interviewing and identification for Iraqi border authorities. The handover was part of the closing ceremony of the Training on profiling, interviewing and identification, which was delivered by national trainers from five border-related institutions in Iraq, and marks the end of a ten-month Training-of-Trainers (ToT) Programme on profiling, interviewing and identification.

Reflecting on the EU Anti-trafficking day today, the Budapest Process and European Migration Network (EMN) are jointly organising a conference on Trafficking in Persons (TiP) on 20-21 October 2022. The conference is hosted by Hungary in Budapest and will include close to 25 countries and several international organisations.
Baghdad, 4-5 October 2022. The Embassy of Denmark in Baghdad, Iraq together with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) conducted the first National Steering Committee meeting of the project “Danish support to Rights Based Border Management in the Silk Routes countries”. This meeting was convened back-to-back with the First national workshop to validate the findings of the needs assessment on risk analysis in border management in Iraq.
Vienna, October 2022: Migrant Resource Centres in the Silk Routes region were set up to (1) reduce irregular emigration; (2) raise awareness of possibilities of safe, regular emigration opportunities; and (3) increase the safety of migrants when in transit or destination.
This new study provides a measure of the impact of the MRCs on achieving these objectives. These MRCs are interesting from a scientific perspective in that most of their activities are interactive, offering personalised counsel to potential migrants and thus a relatively novel form of intervention.

Islamabad, 30 September: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) jointly organised a handover for a Manual on ‘Travel Documents, Security Features, Production Technologies and Examination’ and six document security database licenses. The handover took place as part of the closing ceremony of a 5-day training on document security and profiling delivered by ICMPD, marking the end of a five-month induction training programme for a newly recruited batch of thirty-three Assistant Directors in the FIA.
Erbil, September 2022: The project implementation team for the project, ‘Capacity Building for long-term reintegration of returnees to Iraq’ (Project CAIR), initiated a series of capacity building trainings on Return and Reintegration for the central government institutions in Iraq. The training programme will cover six thematic priorities over the course of three dedicated trainings (September-December 2022).

Islamabad, Pakistan. ICMPD Pakistan organised a leadership training for FIA directors of border crossing points (BCP) at Lahore, Karachi, Sialkot and Quetta airports, as well as Taftan and Torkham land borders, held in Islamabad in mid-July. The training is the latest step in progress to develop a BCP Leadership and Management Training programme within the FIA, funded by the Austrian Ministry of Interior.
Cumilla, Bangladesh. "Migration Friend" written by Debabrata Ghosh, Assistant Director, Cumilla District Employment and Manpower Office has been published with a view to disseminating labour migration information mostly to the aspirant and outgoing migrants so that they can make informed decisions before going abroad for employment and get necessary information which they need throughout their migration journey.
Erbil, Iraq. The Project CAIR implementation team held its third Multi-Stakeholder Platform meeting (on reintegration) in Erbil, Iraq, on 28 July 2022. The Meeting was attended by representatives of the Iraqi Government, including General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Ministries of Labour and Social Affairs, of Migration and Displaced, and of Planning.
To commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2022, the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Pakistan, organised a seminar in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, University of the Punjab on the topic of “Impact of technology on migrants’ journeys and migration processes”
