Ohrid, May 2022. A joint meeting of the South East Europe and the Silk Routes Regional Working Groups of the Budapest Process was held in Ohrid, North Macedonia, 19 – 20 May 2022.
Islamabad, June 2022. The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) with the support of the European Union and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Islamabad organised a 3-day inter-agency workshop on gender for Pakistan’s Border Management agencies.
Baghdad, 14 -16 June 2022. The project CAIR held its second Multi-stakeholder meeting on reintegration platform in Baghdad, Iraq on 14 June 2022.
Islamabad, June 2022. Institutions and organisations tend to appoint as trainers individuals whose technical expertise in a particular field is well established and recognised. The assumption is that if somebody is an expert in a certain subject, they should also be capable of providing training on this topic by applying adult learning methodologies.
Punjab, June 2022. The Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) in Pakistan, together with local partners and stakeholders are organising a series of community outreach interventions from June – December 2022, in the districts of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin of Punjab.
Erbil and Basra, June 2022. Silk Routes team carried out a series of meetings with government stakeholders amongst the Ministries of Migration and Displaced and Labour and Social Affairs and private sector in Erbil and Basra, Iraq, on 23-26 May and 7- 9 June 2022, as part of the ongoing implementation of project ‘Capacity building for long-term reintegration of returnees to Afghanistan and Iraq’ (Project CAIR), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
Islamabad, 7 June 2022. The Embassy of Denmark in Islamabad together with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) launched a new project, namely “Rights Based Border Management in the Silk Routes Countries”. The project aims to support the Government of Pakistan to implement sustainable, rights based border management practices in the area of document security and control of national borders.
Forty two government, civil society and private sector organisations in Bangladesh signed a pledge on 25 May 2022 committing to contribute to the timely, comprehensive and sustainable reintegration of returning migrants.
The signing is part of the Public-Private Sector Partnership for Reintegration in Bangladesh initiative that aims to provide employment, skills, finance and other needs to returnees for their economic reintegration.
At the request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Academy of Pakistan, as part of an intensive 5-month training programme for 11 newly recruited Assistant Directors, ICMPD conducted a training workshop on Document Security Basic Level and an Introduction to Integrated Border Management (IBM).
Our Afghanistan Migrant Resource Centre has reached over 17 million people via social media over the past four years. In Bangladesh MRC reached almost 10 million people only in 2021. Istanbul, Turkey: On 25th and 26th April 2022, the closing conference for the “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes (IMM)”project is taking place in Istanbul, Turkey. This event is bringing together participants from the European Commission, European Union member states as well as representatives from Silk Routes and Central Asian Countries. This includes Bangladesh, Iraq, Pakistan and Tajikistan, as well as civil society organisations and ICMPD.
Baghdad, Iraq: A Silk Routes team conducted a mission to Baghdad, Iraq on 3-5th April 2022, with the objective of advancing policy support on migration matters to the Government of Iraq. The mission forms part of the broader work being done under the project, ‘Capacity building for long-term reintegration of returnees to Iraq’ (Project CAIR), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and implemented by ICMPD.
