Orientation sessions on safe and informed migration for students in Pakistan

Wazirabad, Pakistan: Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Pakistan in collaboration with the Punjab Vocational Training Council organised two orientation sessions for students on safe and informed migration at the Vocational Training Institute Wazirabad. The sessions were attended by students from five different professional trades and 60% of the attendees were women.

Our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Pakistan provides correct and neutral information free of charge to Pakistanis. The MRC is funded by the European Union, and activities are implemented by ICMPD in close cooperation with national and local authorities.

ICMPD hosts NPSC meeting and Training of Trainers of Document Security in Baghdad

Baghdad, Iraq: On the 5-9th September 2021, ICMPD hosted two events including a National Project Steering Committee (NPSC) meeting and a Training of Trainers on Document Security. The events brought together IBM Silk Routes’ counterparts, with the NPSC meeting advancing project implementation, whilst the Document Security workshop aimed to train and advance the knowledge of border authorities.

Vision for sustainable reintegration in Iraq

Ebril, Iraq: ICMPD held a workshop in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Displaced (MoMD) in Erbil, Iraq on 7-9th September 2021. The workshop was organised within the framework of the project "Capacity building for long-term reintegration of returnees to Afghanistan and Iraq" (Project CAIR), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark and implemented by ICMPD.

A message for Pakistanis planning to work or study abroad

Islamabad and Lahore, Pakistan: In this video journalist Sumaira Khan provides a message for Pakistanis who are planning to migrate abroad for work and study purposes. She underlines the dangers that are associated with irregular migration and that those who do so are deprived access to basic social and health rights. Ms Khan also warns intended migrants against using brokers, agents and middlemen.

Dhaka and Cumilla, Bangladesh: In Bangladesh our partner CARE has produced a video on the importance of safe and informed migration while addressing the crucial topic of “middle men”. The video highlights how these “brokers” can make false promises and charge significant amounts of money unnecessarily to migrants.

High-level conference on migration in Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: On 6th September ICMPD participated in an international conference “Global Challenges of Migration Processes in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with SCO: Problems and prospects” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This high-profile event was organised by the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population in Tajikistan in joint cooperation with MRC and the International Organisation for Migration.

Citizens wanting information regarding immigration are directed to our MRCs in Dhaka and Cumilla office as well as their nearest District Employment and Manpower Office.

Video on climate change and migration

Vienna, Austria: Have a look at this video where Harjeet Singh speaks about the link between climate change and migration in South Asia. 18 million people were forced to leave their homes for this reason between 2015 and 2020 in just five countries in South Asia. Our SAMAC project was established to raise awareness of the climate “push factor” which is poorly understood and therefore not given the attention it deserves.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed to spread awareness about legal and informed migration

Lahore, Pakistan: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between our Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Pakistan and Government College Lahore University. This collaboration will spread awareness about legal and informed migration. This cooperation will not only help in disseminating information to young students but will also provide training to students to enable them to share facts and data among their peers and to the wider public in general.
