Baghdad, Iraq: On the 13-14 January 2021, ICMPD brought together representatives from across the Government of Iraq including high level officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Border Port Commission (BPC), Ministry of Interior and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in order to further discuss the progression of a National Integrated Border Management (IBM) Strategy and Action Plan for Iraq.

Baghdad, Iraq: In early January 2021, raw materials procured by IBM Silk Routes arrived in Iraq for the production of COVID-19 related PPE for use by Customs Police, Border Guard Forces and officials at Border Crossing Points (BCPs).
Vienna, Austria: The Montreal Recommendations on Recruitment: a Road Map towards Better Regulation has been published by the UN. This document covers the importance of establishing Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) and providing information about migration, employment, labour recruiters, access to healthcare, housing, raising grievances and dispute resolution mechanisms.
ICMPD together with the governments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq and Pakistan are already implanting these guidelines with EU funding.

Lahore, Pakistan: The Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Pakistan launched an eight month rickshaw advertising campaign in 4 districts of Punjab: Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot. The campaign aims at raising awareness of the MRC’s services - as well as the nationwide hotline - focusing on personal counselling sessions through the hotline, WhatsApp, Skype and Messenger.
This campaign is funded by the European Union and co-funded by Germany.
Kabul, Afghanistan: In order to facilitate migration management and warn of the dangers associated with irregular migration, we launched a billboard campaign in Kabul. This explained and informed citizens about the services of the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) and also provided that hotline which anyone can call free of charge. This campaign has led to a 50% increase in daily consultations. We are now averaging 280 personal consultations per week in Kabul.
Kabul, Afghanistan: Sayed Honaryar from our Migrant Resource Centre in Kabul was delighted to have the opportunity to explain migration issues on the national morning TV programme “Salam Zandagi” which was aired on Channel One Afghanistan.

As part of a series of activities, MEWO initiated this publication/magazine on the occasion of International Migrants Day (IMD) 2020.
Vienna, Austria: Female migration - and the effect of migration on women - is one of the themes shaping ICMPD's approach to the development of strong and sound migration management systems.
