Budapest Process webinar attracts participants from 25+ countries

Vienna, Austria: On 24th March the Budapest Process held a webinar on Understanding and Explaining Attitudes to Migration in the Silk Routes as part of its implementation of the adopted Call for Action. Dr James Dennison presented the report “Understanding and explaining attitudes to migration in the Silk Routes and South Asian countries: the state of the art and recommendations for next steps”.

Over 70 participants from 25+ countries and organisations attended and actively participated in the Q&A session, broadening the dialogue’s collective understanding of migration narratives in an understudied region. As a conclusion, the discussion led to view this report as a launching pad for more research and better data for the Silk Routes Countries. Priority points discussed include 1) the importance of better understanding the propensity to emigrate in all countries in light of past trends and up to date findings; 2) carrying out solid impact assessments of interventions in the countries; and 3) better understanding psychological factors leading to migration.
