Dushanbe, Tajikistan: On 18-21 January, ICMPD paid a visit to Dushanbe to further develop the Migrant Resource Centre in Tajikistan together with the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population who is hosting the Centre.
Deputy Minister Ms. Shakhnoza Nodiri highlighted the need for the further development of the Ministry’s capacity, enhancement of the data banking system and providing Tajik migrants with timely, adequate and reliable information and guidance on all matters related to migration. The visit also allowed for a discussion on the Ministry’s priorities, initiatives and plans for 2021. The project team furthermore participated in the first discussions on a draft of the National Migration Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan 2021-2030 and a related draft implementation plan.
The Migrant Resource Centre is funded through the project “Improving Migration Management in the Silk Routes Countries” by the European Commission and implemented by ICMPD, aiming at raising awareness on safe migration to benefit prospective migrants as well as governmental and non-governmental institutions.
Earlier in 2020, ICMPD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan to implement the above project and enhance further cooperation between both parties.
